Soviet Roadside Bus-Stops

Posted January 15th @ 4:26 pm by Gurt T. Luhrman

soviet busstopNow this is really cool. A series of photos documenting Soviet Bus-Stops. I know that compared to where I live these are far cooler than the boring, stagnant Plexiglas booths on the corner. A nice collection of well shot photos.

One can admire this creativity in the Metro stations of cities like Moscow and Tashkent where the coldness and sterility of typical soviet urban architecture is abandoned and costs are not spared as creative freedom is unleashed. While many of us are aware of the elaborate splendor of the Moscow underground, it is easy to overlook the phenomenon of the common roadside bus stop as an example of soviet art and design letting loose and becoming a little weird and crazy.

Photo of the Day: Cool Steam Towers On A Volcano In Antarctica

Posted January 4th @ 11:44 am by Gurt T. Luhrman

volcano_steam.jpg

The flanks of Erebus are spiked with ice towers, hundreds of them, called fumaroles. Gas and heat seeping through the side of the volcano melt the snowpack above, carving out a cave. Steam escaping from the cave freezes as soon as it hits the air, building chimneys as high as 60 feet.

Devastatin’ Dave the Turntable Slave says: “check out bagakiTV for really rad video”

I’m just wondering what ever happened to Dennis Verbatulum and the Wiener Cake Triad? I thought they put out an album a few years ago. I remember hearing their music on bagakiRADIO back in the day.

df.jpgI don’t know what is going on here, but it does mess with my eyes. If you are looking to get lost with internet nonsense, stop over to Mighty Optical Illusions and check things out for a while.

If lieu of being repetitive I thought it would be cool to be repetitive.

Mmmmm Pork Chops

Posted December 19th @ 10:37 pm by Gurt T. Luhrman

I just put in the oven what are smelling like the best pork chops I have ever made, or eaten for that matter. My homemade breading with fresh organic herbs is starting to make my apartment smell like a five star restaurant. I cannot wait until they are finished to see taste the fruit of my efforts. If they suck, well, I have that bottle of Wild Turkey in the cabinet, I can always wash them down with that. Bad taste from pork chops GONE! HELLLLLOOOO bourbon flavor!!!!

Here is a pic of how they turned out. Delectable.

3. “Renaissance Building”
4. “Old Church”
5. “Old Dorm”
6. “Gymnasium”
7. “Garage Building”
8. “Printing Building”

Go and check out all of the photos, then read about this place. True story, turns out my Grandmother used to work here.

Photo of the Day: Finger Burn - UPDATED

Posted December 13th @ 2:30 pm by Gurt T. Luhrman

finger_burn.jpg

Photo taken after I cleaned under my bathroom sink. I grabbed a few old “body wash” bottles from under there to toss and my fingers were white. It didn’t rub off so I ran my hands under water. After a few seconds, and the stuff not wiping off, I realized it may be bad to have my fingers in water. I immediately dried them off and realized that whatever was on my hand was bad, because it was now starting to hurt.

I have no idea what was on the bottle, but there is nothing that should cause chemical burn under the sink. The most caustic thing under there is mouth wash. Damn, something went wrong with my body wash. And my fingers are now fine. I guess it just had to absorb. Choo choo, here comes the cancer train.

UPDATE:

I woke this morning and the palates on my pointer, index, and thumb are all sore. They hurt when pressure is applied. I have been racking my brain to think of what I may have grabbed yesterday that would leave my fingers in this condition. Then it struck me.. BINGO.. that chemical burn. I don’t really know if this is related or not, but I sure hope my fingers don’t fall off.
