One Awesome Tool

Posted January 3rd @ 12:24 pm by Gurt T. Luhrman

sms projectorI ran across this and now I want one really, REALLY BAD. The SMS Guerrilla Projector. This is the ultimate bagaki experience advertising and harassment tool. Just think of the possibilities. Shirts, cars, windows, walls, bald heads (and there are quite a few of you heading down this road), et cetera. I love it. A great idea. Now we need one of these and some of those TV-B-Gone remotes from Cornfield Electronics and we are set for some guerrilla marketing at its best. Well, maybe I forgot the bottle of scotch. Everything in life is better with a glass of scotch.

the bagaki experience

Posted December 20th @ 10:54 am by Gurt T. Luhrman

bagakiguy.gifOooh, all kinds on news on the home front this week. First bagakiTV launches a new video, albeit a re-release, and now thebagakiexperience.com gives us a taste of the new look. I say bravo to Mr Bagaki for whipping his web developers and motivating them on that project. I think they have been sitting idle on thebagakiexperience.com since its inception years ago. Kudos, please don’t whip me today boss.

This is just the beginning of a long indoor winter where all of Mr Bagaki’s slaves are forced to produce his life-long dream and dynasty that is to become know as… Mr Bagaki’s Opus. Seriously, we hope to continue to bombard you with new and exciting websites, products, features, events, and videos. Now lets just hope my eyes don’t fall out of my head from staring at the computer monitor for such lengths.

I love these old advertisements. Listen to what the narrator says: “shift into awesome”. I love that line, I wish it was mine.

A Quick Lesson On Marketing

Posted December 6th @ 2:14 pm by Gurt T. Luhrman

crowbar_thumb.jpgI would love to know how many blenders Blendtec is selling due to this online marketing campaign. I personally love it. I think they are using the internet in a way most others are afraid to these days, or maybe don’t realize. By producing this series of videos and tapping into social networking websites such as Digg, they have put the name Blendtec into the heads of millions of possible consumers, millions (including myself) who would have otherwise never heard of this brand. Plus their videos are pretty convincing on the ability and durability of their product. If I was currently in the market for a blender, this surely would be on the top of my list.

Video Game Commercial

Posted November 27th @ 2:36 am by Gurt T. Luhrman

This is the current commercial for the video game Gears of War. This is currently one of the big games out for the xbox 360. I wanted to get some reader feedback on the commercial and the choice of music for the game. This is a first person shooter where you are fighting aliens for some reason, I’m guessing to save the world… like all FPS games. Anyway, the music is quite epic for the scenes and I wanted to know if you think it is fitting for such a game commercial or not. Many people across the net seem to think it fits quite well.

The song for those interested is by Gary Jules and is called Mad World. This version is actually performed by Michael Andrews and is taken from the Donnie Darko soundtrack. This was originally a Tears for Fears song.

WTF Was Marketing Thinking

poledance.jpg

The Tesco Direct site advertises the kit with the words, “Unleash the sex kitten inside…simply extend the Peekaboo pole inside the tube, slip on the sexy tunes and away you go!

“Soon you’ll be flaunting it to the world and earning a fortune in Peekaboo Dance Dollars”.

Ummm, I have so little to say about this. Who in the hell approved this item for sale, or production for that matter? And if you haven’t figured out what it is yet, it is a stripper pole for little girls. Now this is NOT what this world needs.

UPDATE!!

lapdance.jpgI just did some digging, this doesn’t stop here. There is also a lap dancing kit. I should clarify a bit here though. I did some research and I don’t know if these products are or are not intended for children. It isn’t very clear. One thing is clear, they shouldn’t be listed in the “toys” section of a website, unless they are “adult toys” - but even then. What adult is going to play with fake money? And is that little plastic pole really for adults? This is it, the world will end tomorrow.

Tuesday’s Crap

Posted October 24th @ 7:42 am by Gurt T. Luhrman

eye poppingLets begin the day with many-o-fun links. A few descriptions, and some time-wasting goodness. What better way than with a google search for eye popping. Ick, and I wonder why African Americans seem to be able to do this better than EVERYONE else. Now lets wonder off to battle front where advertising is invading hand-dryers. How fun. And finally, lets take a stroll down videogame lane and play a game of benevolent assassination.

You may now begin working.

Another Cool Ad Concept

Gotta love Advertising.

Posted July 27th @ 12:49 am by Kevin Semlak

Anyone seen a commercial for Orkin Pest Control recently? I saw one tonight with the Orkin man in it and I thought it was strange because he is wearing a hard hat. What the fuck would a pest control man need a hard hat for?

Another commercial I noticed recently was one on the radio for Cub Foods advertising their boneless skinless chicken breasts where they talk to (supposedly) real customers about their feelings towards Cub boneless skinless chicken breasts. It makes for a pretty goddamn annoying commercial with the fake customers cracking jokes that are reminiscent of Bob Sagat as the host of America’s Funniest Home Videos. But the best is when some guy in the commercial says “Why did the boneless skinless chicken cross the road?…To get to Cub Foods.” Funny stuff, but I couldn’t help but wonder, Why did the boneless skinless chicken cross the road? More like How did it cross the road.

I love commercials.

The Long Tail

Posted July 11th @ 8:26 am by Gurt T. Luhrman

long_tail.jpgClick on the photo to the left for a larger graphical representation of the long tail. There is a lot of money to be made here, marketers need to pay attention to this.

A few years ago Chris Anderson wrote this article for Wired about what has been coined “The Long Tail”. I’m not sure if I should be crediting him for the name. This is an interesting concept to say the least, especially in marketing circles. It is affecting EVERYTHING, and I mean everything in business and marketing. Besides the decline in mass markets and the continued shift to aggregated, niche markets, this articles gets into the concept of many small markets that exist late into a products life cycle. Now this is what they should be teaching in school. (To be honest, I am glad they didn’t where I went. This means I am years ahead of the rest of the pack. Because this concept is so influential in marketing “stuff” that if you don’t understand it, you will not be the best marketer out there and someone will without a doubt take your job from you. This is also partially why bagaki is going to be so successful, that and gobs of hard work and badozens of hours of sleepless afternoons.)

I recommend heading over to Wired to check it out. I think it is a vital concept to understand for anyone trying to sell any product.
